About Nyerere National Park
Established in 2019, Nyerere National Park is now the largest national park in Africa, covering over 30,000 square kilometers. It was carved out of the famous Selous Game Reserve and named in honor of Tanzania’s founding father, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The park boasts a largely undisturbed ecosystem with diverse habitats including miombo woodlands, floodplains, and the mighty Rufiji River, which is renowned for its populations of hippos and rhinos.

Why Visit Nyerere National Park with Angulya Tours and Travel?

  • Abundant Wildlife: The park is home to large populations of elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and one of the last strongholds for endangered African wild dogs. The Rufiji River floodplain attracts hippos and crocodiles, making it a rich wildlife sanctuary.
  • Diverse Safari Activities: Visitors can enjoy traditional game drives, walking safaris, boating safaris on the Rufiji River, and legendary fly camping trips for an immersive wilderness experience.
  • Birdwatching Paradise: With over 440 bird species recorded, including rare pel’s fishing owls and white-backed herons, Nyerere is a top destination for ornithologists and bird lovers.
  • Remote and Untouched: As a relatively new and less frequented park, Nyerere offers a true wilderness experience with fewer tourists, allowing for intimate and exclusive wildlife encounters.
  • Scenic Beauty: The vast landscapes, riverine forests, and floodplains provide stunning photographic opportunities and a sense of Africa’s wild heart.
