About Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park is Tanzania’s largest national park, covering over 20,000 square kilometers, and is part of the vast Rungwa-Kizigo-Muhesi ecosystem spanning 45,000 square kilometers. Located about 130 kilometers west of Iringa, Ruaha offers a wild, untrammeled wilderness with dramatic landscapes including rolling hills, expansive plains, groves of iconic baobab trees, and the life-giving Great Ruaha River which flows along the park’s southeastern border.

Why Visit Ruaha with Angulya Tours and Travel?

  • Rich and Diverse Wildlife: Ruaha hosts Tanzania’s largest elephant population, with around 12,000 elephants migrating through the ecosystem annually. It also boasts large herds of buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and rare antelope species such as greater and lesser kudu, roan, sable, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. Predators thrive here too, with large prides of lions (often 20+ individuals), cheetahs, leopards, and one of the last strongholds for African wild dogs.
  • Unique Game Viewing: The park’s hot, dry climate concentrates animals near water sources like the Great Ruaha River, making game movements easier to predict and sightings frequent, especially during the dry season from May to November.
  • Birdwatching Paradise: With over 400 bird species recorded, Ruaha is a haven for bird enthusiasts, featuring species typical of both southern and eastern Africa.
  • Secluded and Exclusive: Due to its vast size and limited number of camps, Ruaha offers a true wilderness experience with fewer tourists, allowing for intimate and unhurried safari adventures.
  • Scenic Beauty: The park’s varied terrain—from golden savannahs dotted with baobabs to misty hills and riverine forests—provides stunning photographic opportunities and a dramatic backdrop to your wildlife encounters.

Accessibility
Ruaha National Park can be reached by road from Iringa or via small aircraft to Msembe or Jongomeru airstrips, making it accessible yet still remote enough to feel like a true wilderness escape.
